ISLAMIC NOTES: Thirteen Good Deeds To Do At Work Or School As Muslims

In the Name of Allah
The Most Gracious The Most Merciful
13 Good Deeds You Can Do
At Work/School
As Muslims

1)                   Remember Allah every day and night through frequent du'as/supplications and adhkaarAllah such as “SubhanAllah wa Bihamdih”, “Laa ilaaha ilAllah wahdahu la shareeka Lah Lahul Mulk wa Lahul Hamd wa Huwa ‘ala kully shai-in Qadeer” and “AstaghfurAllah” at least 100 times everyday.

Allah, the Most Merciful said, "Those who remember Allah while standing, sitting and lying on their sides, and mediate on the creation of the heavens and the earth, (saying) 'Our Lord! You have not created (all) this in vain! Glory be to you! Save us then from the torment of Hell'." (Qur’an Surat An-Nisa Verse:191)

2)                   Read, recite or memorize from the Noble Qur’an.
It was narrated that the Messenger Muhammad SallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said, “Read the Qur’an, for verily it will come on the Day of Judgment as an intercessor for its companions.” (Sahih Muslim)

3)                   While maintaining a cheerful disposition, say ‘Salaam alaikum’ to as many Muslims as you can greet, and always respond to the salaams of every Muslim you meet.
Whoever says “Assalaamu Alaikum” (May peace be upon you) ten rewards are written down for him. Whoever says “Assalaamu Alaikum wa rahmatullah” (May peace and Allah’s mercy be upon you) for him twenty rewards are written down and he who says “Assalaamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh” (May peace and Allah’s mercy as well as Allah’s blessings be upon you) thirty rewards are written down for him.

4)                   When a Muslim sneezes and says “Alhamdulillah” (All Praise is for Allah) respond with “YarhamukAllah” (May Allah have Mercy on you). The one who sneezed in return says "YahdeekumAllah wa Yusleh baalakum" (May Allah guide you and set aright your affairs) Insha-Allah you earn a reward for doing that.
It was narrated that the Messenger Muhammad SallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said, Six are the rights of a Muslim over another Muslim.” It was said to him: Allah's Messenger, what are they? Thereupon he (SallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said: “When you meet him, offer him greetings; when he invites you to a feast accept it, when he seeks your advice/council give him, and when he sneezes and says: ‘Alhamdulillah’/"All praise are for Allah," you say YarhamukAllah (may Allah show mercy to you)…” (Sahih Muslim)

5)                   Whenever you can, pick up and remove anything harmful from the pathway.
It was narrated that the Messenger Muhammad SallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said, “…Every step you take toward the prayer is a sadaqa/charitable act. And removing a harmful thing from the path is a sadaqa/charitable act.” (Sahih Muslim and Bukhari)

6)                   Seek Islamic knowledge and share it with others.
Read an Islamic book or Islamic article.
It was narrated that the Messenger Muhammad SallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said, “Whoever seeks a way to acquire (Islamic) knowledge, Allah will make his way to Paradise easy.” (Sahih Muslim)

7)                   Enjoin what is right / encourage good deeds (e.g. calling others to pray on time, reminding Muslims to eat and drink with their right, and encouraging Muslims to also pray the Sunnah prayers such as salaat ad-duhaa etc.) and forbid what is wrong / prohibit evil deeds from being committed (e.g. discouraging bullying/oppression).
Allah, the Most Merciful said, “The (true Muslim) Believers, men and women, are protectors one of another: they enjoin what is just, and forbid what is evil: they observe regular prayers, practice regular charity, and obey Allah and His Messenger. On them will Allah pour His mercy: for Allah is Exalted in power, Wise.”
(Qur’an Surat At-Tawbah Verse:71)

8)                   Keep your environment and surroundings clean. Try your best to stay organized. Also know how to manage your time for Allah's sake.
It was narrated that the Messenger Muhammad SallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said, “Cleanliness is half of faith.” (Sahih Muslim)

9)                   Write an Islamic essay, article, booklet, speech or Islamic poem which you will share.
Allah the Most Merciful said, "Let there arise out of you (Muslims) a group of people inviting to all that is good (Islam), enjoining Al-Ma`ruf (i.e., Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam orders one to do) and forbidding Al-Munkar (polytheism and disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden). And it is they who are the successful (on the Day of Judgment).'' (Qur’an Surat Al-‘Imraan Verse:104)

10)               Help a fellow Muslim in only ways that are good/right (e.g. tutoring a Muslim, helping a Muslim with his/her household chores, helping them carry their things etc.)
It was narrated that the Messenger Muhammad SallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said, “…If anyone fulfills his brother’s needs, Allah will fulfill his needs…” (Sahih Muslim and Bukhari)

11)               Look at Allah’s creation while contemplating about Allah the Almighty and His Signs.
Allah the Most Merciful said, "Thus does Allah make clear to you His Signs: in order that you may consider/reflect (and believe).'' (Qur’an Surat Al-Baqara Verse:219)

12)               Defend your Muslim brother or sister when they need to be defended such as when they are being badly spoken about, bullied, ridiculed, cheated or insulted in any way.
It was narrated that the Messenger Muhammad SallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said, “…if one relieves a Muslim of his troubles, Allah will relieve his troubles on the Day of Resurrection…” (Sahih Muslim and Bukhari)

13)               Conduct gatherings or circles where Islamic knowledge is being shared and where there is dhikr/remembrance of Allah. Always stick to the Sunnah/tradition of the noble Messenger Muhammad sallAllahu 'alaihi wa sallam.
It was narrated that the Messenger Muhammad SallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said, "No people sit remembering Allah, the Mighty and Exalted, without the angels surrounding them and mercy covering them and tranquility descending on them and Allah mentioning them to those who are with Him." (Sahih Muslim)

Always include all Muslims in your daily du'as/supplications. May Allah the Most Merciful accept all our good deeds,
forgive all our mistakes and
welcome us in Firdaus/Heaven by His Mercy.
Ameen.
