POEM: Twenty Thoughts / Reflections Of A Traveler

In The Name Of Allah
The Most Gracious The Most Merciful

Twenty thoughts to reflect upon while meditating:
One: Think again, what's the purpose of your creation?
Two: See yourself, and count the blessings that surround you -
Among the best gifts from God is that you are Muslim.

Three: Go back in time, when you were a kid - remember -
The very first day you went to school, and made new friends.
What lessons have you learned, and knowledge you still recall?
Four: How long is your list of good deeds? And sweet moments?

Five: Name each person whom you may have hurt in the past.
Six: Have you apologized to all those you have wronged?
Try to compensate for your mistakes, or pray for those
Whom you laughed at, lied to, or whom you left all alone.

Seven: What sins are you guilty of which you still do?
Strive to stop committing sins before you leave this world.
Eight: What good deeds have you done sincerely for Allah?
Nine: Ties with your loved ones and friends how do you uphold?

Ten: What evidence do you have for your love of God?
What good have you done to believe that Allah loves you?
Eleven: Recall the times when Allah made you smile -
Be thankful to Allah for them even if they're few.

Twelve: Can you make a list of good qualities you have?
Note that if you can't do good then avoid doing bad.
Thirteen: Those people you hate, why do you loathe them so?
If you could always see them, would you know who they are?

Fourteen: Put yourself in those people's shoes, and reflect -
Understand their worries and why they do what they do.
Some mistreat out of jealousy, some because they're forced.
Fifteen: Think of other people's states - what they go through.

Sixteen: If you could go back in time, what would you fix?
Is there a way to mend it, even by repenting?
Seventeen: None is perfect except Allah The King.
We're all servants of Allah and travelers to Him.

Eighteen: Each has a story - its own plot and ending.
Think of those tyrants who left this world with people's sins.
Then think of good legends who brought their good deeds with them.
And then That Day when all will be judged for each doing.

Nineteen: Learn to be more wise by constantly learning -
Learning from mistakes and from those whom God makes you meet.
Twenty: This world is temporal. Its joys are fleeting.
One Day you'll meet Allah to reward you for your deeds.

That you're reading this is a gift from God, so thank Him.
May Allah the Most Forgiving forgive us always,
May Allah join us with His righteous friends whom He loves,
Whom by His Mercy He'll greet smiling on Judgment Day.
Ameen.

ISLAMIC NOTES: The Etiquettes Of Handshaking In Islam

In The Name Of Allah
The Most Gracious The Most Merciful

Three types of reactions when you encounter or come across someone you know outside, whether at a mall, park, city or country you both are traveling to:

1. You spot each other, recognize each other then quickly look away or walk the other way, hoping your acquaintance did not see you or does not come up to you to start a conversation <- sign of a fake friend or "frenemy".

2. You see each other, remember that bad experience between you two which you arrogantly refuse to forget or forgive, and yet flagrantly walk past each other without a word or smile <- sign of a genuine enemy. A true Muslim who is loved and guided by Allah would be the first to say salaam in this case or at least give some sadaqa/charity by smiling for Allah's sake.

3. You identified each other and were really happy you both were at the same place, yet you simply exchanged smiles and friendly nods <- sign of friendship between shy people.

4. You notice and recognize one another, are pleasantly surprised to find each other in the same area, say the salaams and exchange hugs, handshakes or sincere greetings especially to follow the Sunnah tradition of the noble Messenger Muhammad SallAllahu 'alaihi wa sallam in having good/exemplary manners <- sign of true friendship, brotherhood or sisterhood in Islam.

It was narrated that Allah's Messenger Muhammad SallAllahu 'alahi wa sallam said, "No two Muslims who meet each other and shake hands but Allah will inshaAllah forgive both their wrongdoings before they part."
[Sunan Abu Dawud]

When a Muslim shakes hands with another Muslim after some time of not seeing each other, Allah will inshaAllah forgive them.
Note: males only shake hands with males, and females with females.
A female may shake hands with her mahram males such as her father, grandfather, husband, brothers and sons although it may be best if a Muslimah shook hands only with sisters in Islam. Allah the Almighty knows best.

ISLAMIC NOTES: Lessons From The Prophet Muhammad's Love Life | The Types Of Marriages Muslims May Be In

In The Name Of Allah
The Most Gracious The Most Merciful

-From my previous blogs at muslimarvels.tumblr.com and muslimarvels.blogspot.com

Why did the noble Messenger Muhammad [SallAllahu 'alaihi wa sallam] marry many wives? He [SallAllahu 'alaihi wa sallam] was married to several wives to teach Muslims the different kinds of marriages they are allowed to be in. Before some start having doubts about the beloved Messenger Muhammad [SallAllahu 'alaihi wa sallam]'s love life, learn more about Islam before you judge out of ignorance, and take note that:

A: It was a custom many centuries ago for men to marry multiple women. For some, the more wives a man had, the more noble or superior he appeared. Many males back then would be wed to dozens of wives until the ruling in Islam lessened the unlimited number of wives into a maximum of four.
B: It is permitted for a Muslim man to have up to four wives, if capable, for the following reasons: 1- To ensure that, if not all, at least most women are legally married, since it is a known fact that the number of females are far greater than the number of males worldwide. 2- To prevent divorce, separation and disputes between families, as Islam is a way of life that promotes peace and mercy. 3- To increase the number of Muslims who love Allah and His noble Messenger Muhammad SallAllahu 'alaihi wa sallam, so that if one or two of the wives of a man are unable to give kids, still his third or fourth wives can bear more children without leaving the other wives.

Through the blessed marriages of the noble Messenger Muhammad [SallAllahu 'alaihi wa sallam] Muslims have learned that it is okay for a Muslim man to marry:
1// his female boss or employer, a woman of a wealthy background, a woman who is a lot richer than him, a woman who is several years older than him - through the Prophet's marriage with his first wife Khadijah Bint Khuwaylid.
__________________
2// a woman who is heavier than him, plus-size or plump or a woman of dark skin [No racism in Islam] - through the Prophet's marriage with Sawdaa Bint Zam'ah.
__________________
3// a virgin, a female who has reached the age of puberty who is a lot younger than him and shares mutual feelings of love - through the Prophet's marriage with 'Aishah Bint Abu Bakr.
__________________
4// his friend's daughter, or a young widow - through the Prophet's marriage with Hafsa Bint 'Umar Bin Al-Khattab.
__________________
5// the half sister of another wife, and to marry during the noble month of Ramadan while abiding by Allah's Rules - through the Prophet's marriage with Zainab Bint Khuzaimah.
__________________
6// the divorced wife of an adopted son, a divorcee, to stay married to wives who share the same names, and to marry one's paternal or maternal cousin - through the Prophet's marriage with Zainab Bint Jahsh.
__________________
7// an old widow, a woman who already has children from previous husbands - through the Prophet's marriage with Umm Salama Hind Bint Abu Umayyah.
__________________
8// one's maid servant or employee, or a woman from a different tribe/nationality/ethnicity to form peaceful relations - through the Prophet's marriage with Juwairiyah Bint Al-Harith.
__________________
9// in absentia, to have the Walima or marriage contract officially signed even if the groom is in one country while the bride is in another country, and the daughter of one's enemy also to form peaceful relations - through the Prophet's marriage with Umm Habiba Ramla Bint Abu Sufyan.
__________________
10// a woman who assertively takes the initiative to propose to him for marriage - through the Prophet's marriage with Maimoonah Bint Al-Harith.
__________________
11// a woman of low social status, a Christian woman who may inshaAllah embrace Islam - through the Prophet's marriage with Maariya Al-Qubtiyyah.
__________________
12// a Jewish woman who may inshaAllah become a true Muslim, and a woman whose marriage may fix the affairs of one's people - through the Prophet's marriage with Safiyyah Bint Huyayy.

Therefore, in Islam, one's age, social and ethnic backgrounds do not necessarily matter when looking for a wife - what is important is the mutual love, understanding and agreement between husband and wife/wives. Allah the Almighty knows best.

My beloved mother's article on the Wisdom Behind The Prophet Muhammad's Marriages [May Allah the Most Merciful forgive all our mistakes, accept all our good deeds, join us with Allah's righteous friends and welcome us in Firdaus/Heaven near Allah and His Messenger Muhammad SallAllahu 'alaihi wa sallam by Allah's Mercy. Abu Hurayrah (May Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad SallAllahu 'alaihi wa sallam said: “A woman may be married for four things: for her wealth, for her lineage, for her beauty and for her religious commitment. Seek the one who is religiously-committed, may your hands be rubbed with dust (an Arabic term meaning 'May you succeed/prosper')."

SONNET: The Way A Righteous Muslim Wife Loves

In the Name of Allah
The Most Gracious The Most Merciful

To my dear spouse, wherever thou mayst be,
If thou wert asked, 'How doth thy wife love thee?'
She'll say, 'I love you, my husband, each day,
Each night - in an unconditional way,

Dear husband, I love you for Allah's sake.'
Thoughts of you are oft what keep me awake.
I care for you, both when you're gone and here.
Wherever you journey, you're always near.

I'm not like those women whose gaze wander,
Searching for lies one after another.
Loyalty is what makes my love unique -
Dear spouse, the only man I keenly seek,

My love is like the pages of a book,
No lines should be skipped, to be understood.

Wasalaam,
Mariam M.
‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr narrated that Allah's Messenger Muhammad SallAllahu 'alaihi wa sallam said: “This world is temporary joys, and the best temporary joy of this world is a righteous wife.” Narrated by Muslim, 1467; Ibn Maajah, 1855

POEM: Allah Is Watching You Wherever You Are

In the Name of Allah
The Most Gracious The Most Merciful

Live your life for Allah's sake, while you know
That you're being watched wherever you go.
That's self-awareness and having Taqwa,
Knowing that nobody's ever alone.

The theory of the one being watched:
"Life is like a show; I'll put on an act -
While staying true, as a matter of fact,
To Allah, the Judge, and just those He loves.

Even if something seems tempting to me,
Although I wish to do something I like,
As long as it's a sin and evil deed,
I'll forgo it, and keep to what is right.

I won't be myself but whom God commands,
Won't do what the jealous wish and demand,
Plots of haters I try to understand,
Avoid what satan and his allies want."

Some speech are said because they're listening,
Most words are kept secret lest they are heard.
Wherever we are, we're never alone -
Allah is Always Watching, Ever Near.

Mariam M.

POEM: Alhamdulillah That My Loving Parents Were Strict

In the Name of Allah
The Most Gracious The Most Merciful

To teens who whine about their parents' strictness,
To adults who believe they were well brought up,
To future folks and parents who love their kids:
Strict parents have their ways of proving their love.

When your parent forces you to go to school,
And won't allow you to be absent that day,
When your parent says 'bring your lunch', save money,
Don't overspend, never tell lies, don't be late,

When your parent wants you to befriend others
And not those gangs who are a bad influence,
When your parent asks you to do your homework,
To respect your teachers, and choose the right friends,

When your parent snatches the cigars from you,
Throws away some dirty trash found in your room,
When your parent confiscates some DVDs,
Or commands you not to use so much perfume,

When your parent says no to that shirt you like,
Says no to mini dresses and cosmetics,
No to bad manners and procrastination -
Remember that good parents do what is best.

When your parent wakes you up for suhoor meal,
Gets you up for prayer though you feel so tired,
Know that they want you to succeed in both worlds -
Through faith, good deeds and hard work each day and night.

When your parent orders you to wear hijaab,
Tells you to be nice to your younger brothers,
To give a dish to the next-door neighbors, and
To help with the assignment of your sisters,

When your parent scolds you for some wrongdoings,
Hits you for saying a word you should not use,
Reprimands or gives advice with a raised voice,
Or grounds you when you did not do well at school -

Take note that those are some ways strict parents love.
Strict parents love as they guide and rectify,
Observe their kids' behaviour, teach them what's right,
Reward good and bad acts, remind and advise.

Bad kids who go around stealing, telling lies,
Making fun of others and committing crimes,
Are products of parents who were ignorant -
Disrespected too by their kids day and night.

Alhamdulillah for our parents' strictness -
We do what's right without needing to be told,
Always we include them in our good du'as,
And will be there for them even when they're old.

Thank you beloved parents for loving us,
Thank you for helping us learn about Islam,
For teaching us what we should and should not do,
For each experience that made us understand.

May Allah the Most Kind reward our parents
With a grand entry to Firdaus Al-A'laa,
May Allah the Almighty meet us smiling
And reunite us in Heaven near RasulAllah
Muhammad SallAlllahu 'alaihi wa sallam. Ameen.

POEM: All Are Servants Of Allah [Regarding Materialistic Things Never Compare Yourself To Others]

In The Name Of Allah
The Most Gracious The Most Merciful

Some tips on how to quit comparing yourself
To others who, like you, are servants of God:
First, Alhamdulillah that you are Muslim,
A lover of truth and denier of fraud.

If you see yourself closely, you'll notice that
There are good things about you which others lack,
Tough lessons you have learned which many have not,
And good qualities which some folks wish they had.

Don't compare yourself to others, for each has
A book full of stories, and each has a role.
Each one has his/her own journey to travel,
Experiences, talents and puzzles to solve.

Some excel at writing, others in speaking,
Some are good at learning, others in teaching,
Some master the art of dealing with people,
While others the art of cooking and baking.

Some are experts in certain fields such as in -
Sales, fixing things, designing or promoting.
Others have a way with kids, babysitting,
Being sweet or admirably forgiving.

Some know how to rhyme, some clean well, while others
Show excellence as leaders or in nursing,
In researching, giving speeches or advice,
Or in being a friend - truthful and caring.

Everyone has his/her own set of strengths and
Weaknesses - thus, always try to understand -
When Allah gives good things to some and not you,
It's out of wisdom and it's from Allah's Plan.

Be thankful for all the good that Allah gave -
The ones you're aware of and those not yet known.
Avoid jealousy and envy for these are
Traits of satan, who wants Hell to be man's home.

You are special, you are unique, Allah's friend -
A righteous Muslim happy for his brothers,
Always doing what is right and shunning wrong,
Not obsessed with materialistic matters.

Wasalaam~
