In The Name Of Allah
The Most Gracious The Most Merciful
A poem on the topic of lost friendships,
Friends transformed to foes and those we used to know,
From lessons learned through experience, sharing tips
To remind others that they are not alone.
On facebook I’ve spotted lots of folks I knew
From school, places I’ve been to, when we were young.
With some so many adventures I went through,
Swapped jokes and laughter, played games, had loads of fun.
Numbers of them I’ve added but they refused,
Probably disliking my transformation,
The jealous among them hate what I now do,
While the rest have old memories forgotten.
Strangely I remember the good times we had,
Soccer, jogging, yoga, playing Truth or Dare,
Long telephone-calls and fancy teenage fads,
Bandanas we wore, styles we tried on our hair,
Exchanging VCDs, DVDs and mags,
And other stuff we used to do together.
At times I wonder what’s the point of those hugs
And love if they had no place in the future.
Then I’ve learned: People come and go, few remain.
Past friends are teachers who taught us memories.
Present names are tests. True friends are those who stay.
Rare worthy ones make it to your VIP.
As for online friends who ditched you, it’s okay.
Learn not to acquire their awful qualities.
Lost friends in this world can always be replaced.
Those who’ll like you share your goals, dislikes and needs.
So long as Allah loves you, you are all-right.
Make Allah your Best Friend, Qur’an by your side,
Books are neat companions, Tahajjud at night,
No need for evil friends who lie and backbite.
May Allah the Most Kind grant us His Friendship,
His Love and entry to Jannah Paradise.
Ameen. Gifts to find in all relationships:
Self-awareness, increased strength, a light that guides.
